Chelsea homes, neighborhoods, and small-town life
A small town west of Dexter, with a walkable downtown, rural land, and neighborhoods sprinkled throughout.
Living in Chelsea
Chelsea is a small town with a walkable downtown, just west of Dexter. Ann Arbor is a solid 20 to 25 minutes away, depending on where in Chelsea you live. Around the downtown, the land is mostly rural, with neighborhoods sprinkled throughout.
Summer is when downtown Chelsea comes alive. On Thursday nights, Sounds & Sights puts musicians, magicians, and street performers on the corners, and the shops and restaurants stay open later.
Chelsea also has a few local landmarks of its own. The Purple Rose Theatre, founded by Jeff Daniels, is here. So is the Common Grill downtown. Jiffy mix was founded in Chelsea, and its headquarters are still in town.

Chelsea homes and land
Chelsea is laid out much like Dexter. Much of the area is rural, so many homes sit on larger pieces of land, with neighborhoods sprinkled between them. If you want room around your house, Chelsea gives you more ways to find it.
The neighborhoods give you a more traditional street with neighbors close by, while the rural properties give you space and quiet. Both are a short drive from downtown, the theater, and the restaurants.
When I help a buyer look at a rural property, we look closely at the land as well as the house, so you know exactly what you're taking on before you make an offer.
The trade-off: a longer drive for a small-town life
Chelsea's main trade-off is distance. A 20 to 25 minute drive to Ann Arbor is longer than you'd have from Dexter or Saline, and the feel is rural rather than dense neighborhoods. For some buyers, that's exactly the point. For others, it's too far from work.
Before you decide, we'll talk through your commute and how often you'd need to be in Ann Arbor, so you know what daily life here would look like.
Buying or selling in Chelsea with me
A Chelsea home can take more care to price, because no two rural properties are quite alike. I compare yours with the homes that actually sold near it, and we price your home together. Read about selling your home in Chelsea or start with your Chelsea home value.
When your home goes on the market, drone footage shows buyers the land and the setting, which photos from the ground can't do. That matters even more on a rural lot.
If you're buying, I'll show you how Chelsea compares with Dexter and Saline, so you can decide whether the extra space is worth the drive. Read more about buying a home in Chelsea, or call me or send a note.
