Buying a home in Chelsea

A search built around what you need, a clear read on every home, and a checklist from first showing to closing.

Buying a home in Chelsea: land or neighborhood?

Buying a home in Chelsea starts with a choice. Much of the area is rural, so you can find a home with real land around it. There are also neighborhoods sprinkled throughout, closer to the walkable downtown.

Both give you a small-town life about 20 to 25 minutes from Ann Arbor. The right one depends on how much space you want and how you'll spend your days.

What life in Chelsea looks like

Chelsea's downtown is walkable, and on summer Thursday nights, Sounds & Sights brings musicians, magicians, and street performers to the corners while the shops stay open later. The Purple Rose Theatre, founded by Jeff Daniels, is here, and so is the Common Grill. Chelsea is also where Jiffy mix was founded and still has its headquarters.

The trade-off is the drive. Chelsea is west of Dexter, so Ann Arbor is a longer trip than from Dexter or Saline. I'll help you think through your commute before you choose.

Buying rural property with care

A rural Chelsea property is a bigger decision than a house on a city street. We look at the land as well as the house, so you know exactly what you're taking on.

The inspection matters too. Before it happens, I explain what to focus on: safety, structural issues, and foundation issues. Then we look closely at anything significant that comes up.

When it's time to offer, I pull Chelsea sales and call the listing agent to learn about competition and what matters to the seller. Read more in how I help you from offer to keys.
